Inaugural Together for Others Charity Gala for Ukrainian Children
Washington, D.C. recently witnessed a remarkable gathering of the global community organized in partnership with and hosted graciously by the Embassy of the Czech Republic for the Inaugural “Together for Others” Charity Gala, aimed at supporting Ukrainian children affected by Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic and co-sponsored by the Azar Foundation for Children of the World. It featured a series of impactful moments, including cultural performances and heartfelt speeches.
The evening commenced with a stirring Ukrainian dance performed by the young talents from the DC Music Academy School of Ukrainian Dance. It was opened by the Welcome Remarks by HE Miloslav Stasek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic. Numerous ambassadors and deputy chiefs of mission were in attendance, including the ambassadors from Bulgaria, Switzerland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, and Romania, all expressing their strong support for the cause. Ambassador (Ret.) Reka Szemerkenyi, the founder of Together for Others, expressed deep gratitude towards these dignitaries for their unwavering support of Ukraine.
The event also highlighted the partnership with Science 4 People, led by Nobel Laureate Ferenc Krausz. Dr. Krausz delivered a presentation detailing the significant work his organization has been doing among Ukrainian children, showcasing their efforts to leverage scientific education as a tool for empowerment and recovery.
The atmosphere was further enriched by Shahin Mafi of the Azar Foundation, who recited the moving poem “Bani Adam” by Saadi Shirazi, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human suffering.
Highlights of the gala included a performance by Desmond Child, an American singer-songwriter, who captivated everyone’s hearts in the audience with some of his own most loved and well-known songs, Living on a Prayer and Lady Liberty, powerfully illustrating the healing power and the strongest inspiration for doing good that music can give.
Additionally, the audience was deeply moved by the testimony of Yeva Skalietska, a 14-year-old Ukrainian refugee, who shared her harrowing experiences of the war and her book, “You Don’t Know What War Is, ” followed by the concert contribution by Jerome Barry and the Embassy Series, elevating the soul of all participants.
The event could not have been so successful without the enthusiasm, support and committed work of our Host Committee and our Volunteers. A most heartfelt thank you to all our Host Committee Members and our Volunteers!
The event concluded with a successful fundraising auction, signaling a strong community pledge to continue support for Ukrainian children through the Together for Others Foundation. Prominent figures, including Jan Du Plain and Elizabeth Torres, shared messages of congratulations and support, underscoring the event’s success in rallying global solidarity for the cause.
